Her new-found fame was translated into roles on the big screen with Shanghai Noon, Charlie's Angels as well as other movies. In Kill Bill Volume 1, Quentin Tarantino, she gave an impressive performance in the role of Japanese crime lord O-Ren Shii. In the meanwhile, she also played leading roles in several films that failed at the box office, such as Rise: Blood Hunter. Later, she became voice actor for animated films including Kung Fu Panda. small screen roles like Mia Mason in Cashmere Mafia didn't yield any positive results. An appearance in the critically-acclaimed police drama Southland helped re-establish herself as an actress of note. Liu is extremely careful when choosing her roles to ensure she isn't a victim of stereotypes. Although she is adamant about her heritage, it hasn't limited her in her work in the field of art.
