She was a dancer who competed for more than ten years prior starting her social media career in 2019, when she started posting dance videos on video-sharing site TikTok. In March 2020 she was the top popular creator on TikTok. Khaby Lame surpassed her in July 2022. D'Amelio's feature film debut was the role of a voice actor in the animated feature film StarDog TurboCat, released in 2020. Since 2021, she has been a participant in the Hulu Docuseries D'Amelio, and Snap Original Charli vs. Dixie. in 2022 D'Amelio took part as a star contestant. She went on to win together with Mark Ballas, in the thirty-oneth season of the dance show Dancing with the Stars. Her other endeavours include two books and a podcast. She also has collections of nail polish as well as a mattress, a cosmetic line, clothing brand, as well as a multi-product company. She's the only person in history to reach both 50 million and 100 million TikTok followers. D'Amelio was the highest-earning TikTok female in 2019 and was the highest-earning user of the app by 2022 according to Forbes. It is said that she's the TikTok's most popular star.
